Our story takes place in and around Indigo Springs, an imaginary town on the front range of the Colorado Rockies. Inspired by the real Eldorado Springs south of Boulder, Indigo Springs was established in the early 1900s as a summer resort built around natural geothermal pools. Presently, the town is an enclave of tiny cabins and homes, and a solitary pool open only during the summers.
A mystical Place Come to Life
In generations past, the Arapaho and other Native American tribes of the Great Plains wintered in the canyons along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and enjoyed the healing waters of hot geothermal springs. When white settlers arrived in the mid-1800s, they too became aware of its mystical pools. Yet, the source of their real power remained hidden deep within the earth. Until now.
In “Turnabout,” Benjamin Dodge discovers the source of the magic lies beneath Castle Rock, a large outcropping of red sandstone that juts out of the prairie like the bow of a mighty ship. It hides the entrance to an ancient cavern and a mystical spring pool. Could Castle Rock also be the gateway between the world of the living and the realm of the dead?
The dust devil
danced across the top of the mesa,
a swirl of dead leaves, red sand and prairie grass,
floating on invisible currents of air.
“Listen,” the dust devil whispered with the voice of the wind.
“Can you hear us?”
